Urgent: Potential Water Leak in Your Building – Immediate Action Required
Dear Residents,
We want to inform you of a potential water leak affecting the water system in our buildings. The Portland Water Bureau has detected an excessive water usage of approximately 9,000 gallons every 2.7 days, which is well beyond normal consumption levels.
After an initial assessment, they believe the issue may be caused by one or more leaking or continuously running toilets within the buildings. Even a small, unnoticed leak can lead to significant water waste, increased utility costs, and potential damage over time.
How You Can Help:
To assist in identifying and resolving this issue, we kindly ask all residents to take the following steps as soon as possible:
✔ Check Your Toilets:
- Listen for any continuous running water sounds and check for a loose toilet handle.
- Conduct a simple dye test: Add a few drops of food coloring to the toilet tank and wait 15–20 minutes. If the color appears in the bowl without flushing, you have a leak.
✔ Inspect Faucets and Other Fixtures:
- Check all sinks, bathtubs, and showers for dripping water.
- Ensure all faucets are completely turned off when not in use.
✔ Monitor for Other Signs of Leaks:
- Look for unexplained wet spots, pooling water, or mold growth around plumbing areas.
- Check under sinks and behind appliances for any signs of moisture.
If You Suspect a Leak:
If you notice a running toilet, a leaking faucet, or any other potential water issue, please contact a plumber as quickly as possible. You can also reach out to Carol Hunt at 503-201-5200, who is updating our handyman reference sheet.
We are working closely with the Portland Water Bureau to resolve this matter and appreciate your cooperation in helping to identify the source of the leak. Your prompt action will help prevent further water loss and potential damage to the building’s infrastructure.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. Please reach out through an AVR to get additional leads on plumbers, or if the leak is extensive.
